Cleanliness

Anjela and I have different ideas as to what constitutes cleanliness. I'm annoyed by clutter... my idea of clean is to have everything put away. If something is on the floor that isn't furniture, then the room isn't clean. However, it would never occur to me to, say, dust those nice, clutter-free surfaces, and vacuuming would only happen with actual, visible debris on the carpet.

Anjela isn't bothered by stuff everywhere, but she hates dirt. She wants surfaces cleaned, floors mopped, carpets vacuumed, etc.

Our differing ideas here result in dialogs like this one:

Anjela (looking at my sink): You know, you're allowed to say "Honey, my sink is filthy, would you clean that out for me?"
Me: My sink is filthy?
Anjela: Aah, now that would be the problem.
Me (looking at my sink): It's not filthy! There's not one rat!

Of course, between the two of us, we can take care of most anything in the house just by division of labor.

HAHAHA -- it's the same way in the Eaglehaus. Mrs. Eagle likes "clean" - Eagle likes "neat." The biggest exception is the computer room, which is usually in such a state of flux as to never be neat.

Unfortunately, Paul and I are so compatible that even our definitions of "clean" match. This is unfortunate because that definition is "can walk through room without tripping, nothing smells bad." There's more than one reason we never have guests. ;)

"can walk through room without tripping, nothing smells bad."

This is similar to mine, though I don't care if you can walk through the room without tripping. As long as you fall into something non-lethal when you trip, the room's fine. ;-)

Your conversation cracked me up. :)

We're the same way -- I'm like you and P's like Anjela. It really does make for a good division of labor, too, because his chores would make me crazy (and vice versa).

My favorite part of this is that it means I have an excuse never to clean. Because you have to have junk off surfaces to surface clean!

This also means that the kitchen is consistently the cleanest room in the house, owing to three factors:

1.) Rarely used. (This will probably change this month.)
2.) When used, almost always cleaned up after (dishes put away, appliances shoved into corners).
3.) When neat, surface present themselves for cleaning. And I clean them.
