Kill the Meeting

So, people (by which I mean [livejournal.com profile] kimatha) seemed receptive to the idea of me starting a blog on the topic of what's wrong with the standard American corporate office environment, and on alternative working arrangements to increase both productivity and happiness.

So I did.

I'll be updating every Monday at a minimum, more often as the whim strikes me.

I like it.

Don't forget to bitch about MS Project. Bunch of people sit around a room getting high, making a schedule according to the estimates of their group, and 5 months down the line those early WAGs have become set in stone as if they had some objective meaning.

I always take any Gantt chart with at least one grain of salt.

Excellent.

The blog broke when I tried to comment there, so I'll comment here.

Quick change battery packs, and a support infrastructure for them might solve the problem of long distance travel for electric cars. You drive, you get low on juice, you pull into a "gas" station, and they swap your dead battery pack for a live one, charge you a fee for the electricity and amortization cost on the battery pack, and you're on your way. You'd need to standardize the interface for a wide range of vehicles, (like how AA is a standard, only much much bigger) and get the swap time down to something comparable with a regular gasoline fuel stop.

Thanks for setting that up. I look forward to reading it. BTW, it's now syndicated here on LJ at http://syndicated.livejournal.com/killthemeeting/ .

Let me express my admiration and agreement with this project!

Do you know similar blogs / mailing lists / etc?

I would be interested in practical guides about how to sidestep corporate BS to make life work for you.

In my particular case, this is mostly the question of how to work from home when you're an H1B (the cubicle environment drives me crazy)... How do you find sympathetic employers, etc?
