For graphics geeks (particularlypyran): Behold .kkreiger. This is a 3D shooter with relatively impressive graphics that is only 96k in size. The tiny executable contains no meshes and no textures, but you wouldn't know it to see the game. Note that though it's only 96k, you need 512MB of RAM to run it, not to mention a GeForce3 or better graphics card -- it makes up for not storing anything by calculating a whole lot. It's not a very fun game (AI is nonexistent, so it's about as challenging as playing chess against a sponge), but what do you expect from a game that's probably smaller than your LJ friends page? It looks great.
For gamers of all kinds: Will Wright, creator of SimCity, Black & White, and other pseudo-games/electronic toys, presents Spore, his latest and most impressive pseudo-game/electronic toy. The whole video is 35 minutes, but it's worth watching -- the game only gets more impressive the entire video. Every time you think you've seen the "good part" of the game, you discover once more that's only a tiny fragment. It's like the famous Eames video Powers of Ten turned into a game.
My wife's been gone for only a day and a half, and I find that, while I have plenty to do, life is just not as enjoyable without her. I'm so sappy; I'm very accustomed to (and pleased by) her company even when we're just in our house doing our own things.
