Movie Day

Anjela and I spent much of today at the movies

Pirates of the Caribbean was surprisingly good. If you've ever played any of the Secret of Monkey Island games, however, it's like seeing them on-screen. Orlando Bloom is Guybrush Threepwood, not-so-mighty-pirate. They're even up against ghost pirates, though none of them is named LeChuck. The girl, while not the governor, is the governor's daughter, which I suppose is close enough. And no one need fear porcelain.

Anjela and I were making comments during swordfights like "You fight like a dairy farmer!"

The music was very good for the movie. It was kind of the typical music that occurs in all swordfighting movies, but it fit perfectly.

As for Charlie's Angels 2, it amply demonstrated that it was leaving reality behind in the first scene, an even-more-improbable version of Bond's initial escape in Goldeneye. The plot seemed like a rather contrived, thinly veiled excuse for the girls to change constumes constantly and dance around. Indeed, it was often possible to forget the plot existed entirely.

It was awesome anyway. I'd have paid $6 to watch the closing credits. Yes, I'm a guy -- so sue me.

I agree with all of the above. We saw Pirates last night, and went to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen this afternoon, which was so sub-par that we had to clear our mouths by seeing Charlie's Angels tonight.

We then got copious amounts of liquor. (Hey, Sam's 21st was yesterday. Of *course* he wants liquor.)

I'll watch Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz dance around and do kung fu majik in skimpy costumes any day. I'll even pay for it. :)

Once I realized that CA2 was going to completely ignore conventional physics, I decided it was actually quite a fun movie. :)

Hello. This comment is unrelated to your post :)

Is there a user pic in the works for the [livejournal.com profile] libertarianism? I think it would make the community look nice.
