Ghosts

I was just reading a somewhat interesting article on MSNBC about infrasound -- extremely low-frequency sound that has strange effects on humans. You can't hear it, but you can be aware of the vibrations.

Due to the fact that this may explain some "haunted" places, the article had a little survey on the left side asking "Do you believe in ghosts?"

38% of respondents said yes.

And that's not just 38% of people in general -- that's 38% of people reading the article on MSNBC. 38% of people who are mostly American, have Internet access, are generally adult, and have at least a high-school education. And 2 out of 5 of them believe in ghosts.

I wonder if they believe in Santa Claus, too.

Public schools

Continuing my observations of current events, I just read this Newsweek article about overspending for home ownership, and what can be done to avoid requiring two incomes to live. Of particular interest to me is the last paragraph:

Don’t have kids. A drastic choice, but you’ll have more options on where to live. Good public schools are now for the moneyed class.

That's not what's supposed to happen... )
