Time estimates
Dec. 28th, 2000 11:52 amWell, since I have a large negative number of vacation days left (though my paystub says I only have -1 1/4 days left... maybe I'm catching up faster than I thought), I'm still at work this holiday season.
Not much is up... I'm still rewriting vast quantities of test files for a new version of the product. This is Day 9 of the 5 days scheduled for this. Currently, I have ported 1,213 files. Very few of them work, but all of them compile with no errors. This means I "only" have 1,593 files to go. Yes, I think my boss rather drastically underestimated the amount of time this would take. :)
Note that I don't actually have to make them work, just compile, but even so... I'm not even half done after twice the allotted time. That seems to be a problem. I think bosses are like Starfleet captains, always giving the engineers half the time actually required to do a task.
This said, I really like my boss. When he drops in and gives suggestions, they're actually good, useful suggestions that help me get things done faster. As opposed the the stereotypical suggestions from "the boss", such as "I'd like my database to be mauve." :)
